Sarilda Mayberry

Hi! My name is Sarilda Mayberry. I am a Clinical and Mental Health Counselor Intern dedicated to helpingĀ individuals create the best versions of themselves. My experience includes working with children and adolescents in various capacities, giving me a deep understanding of their unique challenges and developmental needs. I am passionate about supporting clients as they navigate all areas of their lives where they seek growth and change. Whether it’s setting goals, addressing emotional pain, or exploring patterns that no longer serve them, I aim to provide a safe, empathetic, and compassionate space for healing.
I meet my clients where they are, honoring their pace and individuality, and work collaboratively to help them envision and create the version of themselves they desire. I strive to offer kindness, understanding, and a nonjudgmental presence, which allows clients to feel supported as they explore different approaches to improving their lives. While I recognize that the therapeutic process can feel difficult at times, I am here to motivate you, celebrate your progress, and cheer you on as you navigate your unique journey toward healing and growth.

Areas of Expertise

I specialize in working with children and adolescents, drawing on my background and expertise to connect with younger clients in meaningful ways. However, I also have experience working with individuals across the lifespan, including adults and older adults. My specific areas of focus include anxiety, depression, family relationships and dynamics, and anger management.

What Is Your Main Goal When Working With a Client?

My primary goal is to help you become the best version of yourself. I aim to support you in identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be holding you back from living a happy, fulfilling life. Together, we will work on building communication skills, restoring inner peace, and creating strategies to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Whether it’s emotional healing, personal growth, or self-discovery, I am here to walk alongside you as you create the life you envision.

What Is Your Approach and What Methods Do You Employ?

I take a client-centered approach, ensuring that my work is tailored to meet your unique needs. I approach therapy with genuineness, empathy, and acceptance, creating an environment where you feel seen, heard, and valued. My focus is on helping you recognize your worth and fostering growth in a positive and empowering direction.
I also emphasize the importance of exploring family systems, as they play a significant role in shaping behaviors, emotions, and relationships. By identifying patterns and dynamics that may contribute to challenges, we can work together to promote meaningful change and growth. I implement intervention techniques as well as other various methods to ensure that you are provided with skills to assist you as you work toward your goals.

What Age Groups Do You Work With Most Often?

My clients have ranged from ages 10 to 85! While I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents, I feel privileged to support individuals of all ages in achieving their goals and improving their well-being.
Are You Passive or Active in the Session? What Can a Client Expect While Working With You?
In sessions, I take an active role while remaining flexible and attuned to your needs. I work alongside you, offering interventions and exploration strategies that align with your goals and needs. While I allow you to take the lead and guide the direction of our work, I remain a supportive and engaged presence, adapting to whatever you need throughout the process.
You can expect me to listen deeply, be thoughtfully engaged, and create a supportive space where you feel comfortable and seen. I also introduce new ideas and perspectives when appropriate, helping you to reframe situations and develop solutions that create growth and positive change. My ultimate goal is to empower you to take ownership of your journey while feeling supported throughout the therapeutic process.

What is your background and what are your credentials?

I will graduate in March with my Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling. My previous background has been working with children and adolescents while integrating my passion for the arts. I have an interest in play therapy and expressive arts such as improvisation, role-playing, or storytelling to help clients navigate their past and present experiences.

What is the reason you decided to get into counseling?

While working with children, I often saw them experience overwhelming emotions they didn’t know how to express. These feelings were sometimes ignored or dismissed, leaving them without a sense of being truly heard. I was struck by how much just being there to listen-without judgment or trying to “fix” things-could make a difference. Simply being present gave them a sense of comfort and validation, and it was in those moments I realized that supporting others in this way was my true calling.
I knew I wanted to build a career where I could provide that same presence and understanding to people in need. With my background in performing arts, I was inspired to incorporate creativity into my work, helping others explore and express themselves in new and meaningful ways. Counseling became the perfect path to combine my passion for helping others with my love for creative expression.
